Giving Thanks

I am deeply grateful to be surrounded by my loved ones this Thanksgiving. This year, I’ll be giving thanks for family, health, work that I love, and the everyday abundance that I have the privilege of living. My prayers & thoughts go out to those who aren’t as fortunate this holiday season; especially the families still dealing with the aftermath of tropical storm Sandy.

I hope you have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving! I’ll leave you with a glimpse of my centerpiece for this year’s table – kale, ornamental peppers, ranunculus, gold craspedia, and creeping cedar.

xoxo, Maya

September Road Trip

September is my absolute favorite month of the year! It just has a lot going for it with the start of a cozy new season, memories of back to school time, apple picking, and outdoor carnivals & fairs. It also happens to be my birthday month, not that it makes me a bit biased or anything (ok, it kinda does).

This year, I decided I wanted to spend my birthday close to my family in South Florida, so a road trip was planned. Now, I’ve done this pilgrimage to my family home many times and am very familiar with the drive, but I’ve always just blown through only worried about completing it in the shortest amount of time possible. Sometimes driving for 14 hours straight (not fun). So this time I set a few stops along the way and made it more of a real road trip with camping and sight seeing.

One of those stops was Charleston, South Carolina and boy did I swoon big time over this charming southern city…

The city is so full of history and style with restored brick masonry, lush hidden alleyways and luxe details like the garage door above. Lovely low country style was was everywhere and around every corner.

I stumbled upon the most extraordinary honey shop, you just have to see to believe it. Every possible form of honey on full display. How could you resist?

I had such a wonderful time in Charleston and I hope to be able to return many times. There is so much left to be explored, I feel it deserves more than just one visit. I’m definitely glad to be back to my neck of of the woods though, and just in time to watch the leaves start to change and get in on all the fall fun!

Summer Lovin’ Had Me A Blast

A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Ruthie of Ruth Eileen Photography { who is a total sweetie pie I’m grateful to call a friend } on a bohemian inspired photo shoot. She had found a little treasure of a vintage Gunne Sax dress while on work assignment in Texas, and while we chatted over a picnic lunch, we tossed around ideas of doing a styled shoot that would be an eclectic mix of things we love – vintage, country & bohemian –  much like the dress. And so, one small idea { and lots of elbow grease } became this:

Honestly, this couple { Anna & David } is just gorgeous! They are so head over heels in love and it shows in every single shot. Skip on over to the Ruffled blog to see lots more of this late summer love fest, including a “much too cute to be real” vintage french desk dessert table, complete with a delicious maple glazed coffee cake I baked myself { shout out to Ina Garten for the scrumptious recipe }. I hope it puts a smile on your face and helps you say farewell to the summer season. Happy weekend!

Hello World!

Poppy Love Weddings is now officially open for business and I couldn’t be more proud! What started as a wistful dream three short years ago has now come into fruition. And, while taking the leap towards doing what I love wasn’t at all easy, living everyday with a heart full of hope and promise for the future is a worthwhile reward to say the least.

I look forward to sharing my adventures (and misadventures) along this great journey and I hope to inspire others to celebrate the love they share for one another by way of graceful gatherings, joyous moments, and new traditions.

To all the family {especially my darling hubby}, friends and colleagues that provided me with encouragement, guidance &  love along the way – thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me live the life I’ve always imagined. Your support means the world to me. xoxo.
